Title : Clever Katya

Retold by : Julia Donaldson

Illustrator : Jane Kochnewitz

Publisher : Ginn Publications

This book is about a story of Katya who is a clever girl. The Czar of Russia went out of his couch when he saw a farmer eating some bread. Since he was hungry, he asked the farmer for some bread. When the Czar tasted the bread, he thinks it was the most scrumptious bread he ever tasted. He asked the farmer to know the person who baked the bread. The farmer told him that it was his daughter, Katya who baked the bread. The Czar gave three unsolvable problems to Katya. She cleverly evaded all the questions and backfired them at the Czar. The Czar was amazed of her intelligence. He decided to marry her and brought her to the castle. She made him promise that she will take home something she loves the most in the castle if he was angry with her before she was married. They lived happily in the castle. After a year, the Czar quarrelled with Katya and told her to leave the castle. She locked him in a chest when he was sleeping and brought it home. He was surprised when he thought she had kidnapped him. Katya told the Czar the promise he made. He was very happy.

Appreciation and Reflection

I would like to thank my sister, my friends and my teacher, Puan Ng for guiding me throughout the project. Without them, I would not have been able to complete this blog successfully. I also appreciate all the constructive criticisms given throughout this duration. I have learnt a lot from them. I will use the knowledge I gained from making this blog for further use next time. Since I learned how to make my own blog, I will use this knowledge to help the others who have problems creating a blog. I have also learned how to add page elements on my blog.

Why Should We Care for Our Parents?

We should care for our parents forever. Without our mothers, we won't be able to experience this wonderful world. Our fathers will sacrifice their energy to support our families. Therefore, we must always appreciate the sacrifices our parents give to us. They also provide us with shelter, food and protection.

Besides, our parents will care for us too. When we want something, they always buy it for us. Hence, we should be grateful of our caring and loving parents.

Dear Mum & Dad,

I want to thank you for always being near me and for all the love you have given to me.

You have been the best parents I could ever have.

You were with me when I laughed and when I cried,

When I succeeded and when I failed,

You were always there giving me a helping hand,

I thank you for being such great parents,

I want you to know that I love you very much.

My holiday

During my school holidays, my family and I went to Malacca. We packed our things on the previous day. We went there by driving my father's car. We left our house after we had our lunch.

Around 3p.m., we reached Malacca. My father drove his car until we reached the A' Famosa Resort. We booked a bungalow there. Then, we went to our bungalow. When we reached our bungalow, I was amazed by the scenery. There was a big lake right behind the bungalow. We also had a neighbour beside our bungalow. Our neighbour has a very cute dog. Me and my sister played with it and also took photo of it. In the meantime, my parents are busy talking to the neighbours.

We also went to the fishing pond in the resort. We caught a variety of fishes such as tilapia, snake head, catfish and many more. After that, we visited and saw the A' Famosa Fort. It reminds me of the time when the Portuguese came to conquer Malacca. We visited the Stadhuys Building and we saw a lot of artifacts and historic items. At night, we had our dinner in a nearby restaurant. The food in that restaurant was delicious. We went back to the bungalow and have some rest.

The next day, we had our breakfast at a stall. After that, we visited the Malacca Zoo. We saw many types of animals such as lions, tigers, monkeys and others. We also went to some shopping complex. My mother and sister bought a lot of things. We packed up and headed home. I wish I can come and visit Malacca again next holiday.

A letter to a character

Dear caring tree,

How are you getting on? I read about about you in a book during my English lesson. I really like you since you are caring and loving. You are also very kind. I wish I could be like you. Furthermore, you are not selfish and generous. You are willing to give the little boy your parts of your body.

You are too generous. You should not give away all your things away. You must have a fair share with others. Anyways, I need your help. I am being very selfish during these days. I need your advice and help to change my attitude. Can you help me? I'll be very grateful if you can help me.

It's late. I have to go. Bye!

Your friend,
William

Book Review

Title: The Caring Tree

Author: Sheikh Hassan Seylan 'Abad

Illustrator: Raihan Munif Bahasuan

Publisher: Abad Ceria Enterprise

This story is about a boy and a tree. The boy loves to play with the tree when he is young. When he is older, he stops playing with the tree. He uses the tree for his own needs. Finally, when he is old, he stops by the tree are rest on its roots. I like it when the tree is generous to give the boy his various parts of itself. I learnt that our parents always give us what we want just like the tree in the story. Therefore, we should appreciate what our parents give us because they sacrificed many things for it.
